For many retirees, finding the right place to settle down means prioritizing both safety and financial security.

A recent study by GOBankingRates ranked cities across the U.S. based on these factors, analyzing crime rates and average income among retirement-age households in communities where at least 25% of the population is 65 or older.

One Nevada city stood out, earning a spot among the top 10 retirement destinations.

Mesquite claimed the No. 7 spot in the safest and wealthiest cities in the United States to retire. Mesquite's average retirement income is $39,396. It also has a low crime rate with less than 2 cases of violent crime per 1,000 residents and less than 12 cases of property crime.

The town just northeast of Las Vegas is home to 20,471 people, mostly retirees. It is also the fastest growing town in Nevada. It is known for its golfing opportunities, proximity to the Red Rock Desert, hotels, restaurants and casinos.
